From the a-day-in-the-LA-life observations of “In The City of Everything”, to the humorous storytelling of “The Unfortunate Twist”, and the jaded generational angst of the album’s title track, back to the psychedelic utopianism of “Something We’re Becoming”, Time Machine shows that having range is all in a day’s work. The song-writing overflows with DIY attitude, and Mekalek’s mostly hi-speed production boasts heavy drums and rich melodies every time. Auxiliary producer Stoerok makes the album’s soundscape even more dynamic with hiscontributions of “Mountains” and “Who Cares?”.

Idiot Savant breaks onto the scene with Dj Green Lantern's crew, Team Invasion. Idiot Savant is a group project combining the talents of rising star, Verbal, and the production powerhouse The Kickdrums. This self-titled mixtape is a collection of songs reflecting on girls, booze, and life's ups and downs mixed by Team Invasion's DJ Giovanni. Verbal's wordplay and delivery have been called "brilliant" and "refreshing" by fans and critics alike. Straying from battle rhymes and brag rap, Verbal digs deep on tracks like, "Don't Say a Word," then loosens up on fun songs such as "Good Lookin." The Kickdrums, whose lengthy production resume includes 50 Cent, Little Brother, and Ray Cash, bring non-stop fire behind the boards fusing original instrumentation and classic sampling. The Kickdrums' Fitts provides background vocals and hooks throughout the album. The Idiot Savant mixtape has all the makings of a classic that thinks outside the box and sounds like the next big thing. Enjoy!

Change is back with his follow up LP, “Same As It Never Was”. The same emcee who brought you the debut success “Tuesday Mournings” in 2005. Change takes a trip back in the Hip-Hop timeline to bring you an album reminiscent of the mid 90’s era, often referred to as the “golden age” of Hip-Hop. With all sample based production handled by JustMe, Clockwork, Anno Domini, and PacoNaut, this LP brings you exactly what’s been missing from Hip-Hop as of late. Pure lyricism over banging beats. With guest features from Othello (Lightheaded), Braille (Lightheaded), Wonder Brown (Scribbling Idiots), and JustMe (Scribbling Idiots). This album gives you what you want, and more importantly, what you need.

Audible Audities is a group of four emcees that formed roughly eight years ago in Boulder, Colorado. The group (TopiQ, Sarasvati, the Rascal & Sloppy Joe) tends to lean towards the light-hearted side of hip hop but still manages to touch on important social and political issues. Taking distinct influence from groups like Jurassic 5 and A Tribe Called Quest, Audible Audities maintains a consistently live feel on studio recordings that are often reminiscent of the Old School era of hip hop. Having just finished their debut album, "Last Call Poets" (INSTORES LOCALLY AND ONLINE) , the crew has performed their songs for enthusiastic crowds in support of Blackalicious, MF Doom, Cunninlynguists, Zion I & 2Mex just to name a few. Audible Audities are promptly going right back to work on their second album & will continue to spread their honest brand of hip hop to music listeners worldwide.

The very essence of great instrumental hip hop albums should revolve heavily around two things...heavy drums and beautiful samples. Lately, instrumental heads have held in high regards labels like Bully, no doubt due to their knack for handpicking amazing DJ's and producers for a series of limited edition releases from the likes of Sixtoo, Maker, DJ Signify, Joe Beats and more. That said, it's time we stop drooling over the next Bully release and take note of Dday One, whose last LP, Loop Extensions, went from highly unknown, to heavily slept on, as it is now a much sought after item. If you missed releases like the Signal Path LP, it's time to wake up...Dday has arrived! Picking up the pace on the beats here, unlike his previous down-tempo heroin coma tracks, there is still plenty of head-nodding happening here. Do not sleep!

“What's Happening” is a musical excursion through different styles. Moving seamlessly though space-aged soul, hip-hop, funk and rock, this project is diverse. Katalyst is a hugely successful Australian artist, now signed to BBE for Rest of World; we will develop this success into more global recognition. On this album he collaborates with many talented and like-minded artists from US, UK and Australia. The album was started in 2006 and completed over the course of about a year. Some of the guests were recorded at Katalyst’s studio in Sydney Australia, while others were recorded in the US and the UK. This album makes comment on many issues facing us today. The title of the album,” What’s Happening" can be interpreted in several ways - be it what's happening socially, politically, environmentally, economically or personally. The other take on the title is of course what's happening musically. The tracks were written with the respective vocalists in mind – once the vocals were recorded their was often additional production and arrangement done. This record was produced and mixed at Katalyst's M2 studios. The record was written using MPC4000, MPC60, computer, various outboard synths, keyboards and equipment. There were additional live elements recorded at various locations.

That’s because Symphony Nova Scotia is an unusually versatile first class chamber symphony orchestra, Buck 65 is a truly imaginative and creative poet and hip hop artist, and conductor/composer Dinuk Wijeratne has the imagination and skill to pull it all together – a combination of talents and attitude that you don’t often find.

The night featured arrangements of Buck 65’s hits like “Way Back When” and “Cries a Girl”, but also a CBC commission of a brand new work by Dinuk Wijeratne - a triple concerto for Cellist (Norman Adams), turntable artist Buck 65 and percussionist Terry O’Mahoney.

Produced by the UK's Abstrakt, A Radio With Guts is a deeply personal, semi-autobiographical album from Input out of Colorado. This follow up to last 2006's Elusive Candor on the Dirty Laboratory label is a different approach from his experimental side as he tells a painful tale of his life story without asking for the pity that might come with it.

Hip Hop music is an oversaturated market, where everyone's an aspiring artist, and genuine talent is extremely rare. Standing out among the crowd takes intangible qualities, extraordinary ability, and a unique sound. With this in mind, hearing artist Judah the LyricalRev should be considered an unusual pleasure. The 26-yr-old phenom and Rockford, IL native is equal parts emcee and producer. He describes himself as "a pitcher that can hit homeruns", meaning he is just as fierce behind the boards as he is on the mic! It only takes one earnest listen to quickly see that Judah is not your typical run-of-the-mill artist. His cunning lyrics and neck-snapping production are done with an authority that certifies him as the real deal!

What makes Minneapolis-based, veteran hip-hop collective Kanser so infectious? It's the beats, my friend. Their latest LP Future Retro Legacy may be somewhat of an oxymoron, but upon listening to the album, you'll find that it really isn't. Fusing big blaring horns with pulsing rhythms, along with dashes of piano and a whole lot of groove. Though I wouldn't suggest stand-up for these Minnesotans, there is certainly a great comedic aspect to this album as a whole that makes it quite enjoyable. The vocals are also quite intriguing, mixing hip-hop and R&B

As the first in a multipart instrumental series, The Fudgemunk dug into his vaults to compile this previously unheard collection of vintage beats. Spare Time breaks us off with crispy, sampled drums and intricately chopped to death samples destined to keep heads nodding and mp3 players rumbling until the next release. More than a mere beat snippet compilation, Spare Time presents full length tracks that showcase masterful low pass filtering and phenomenal breakdowns, many of which occur at the very end of the track. Always one to deliver what a beat head really craves, Damu embraces the essence of Hip-Hop by taking us on a sonic sound trip using only a stripped down Akai MPC 2000 and the honed skill of a master craftsman.

Picking up where the previous instalment Realities of Life left off, Outside Looking In sees Marsh Farm’s finest in top form, doing what he does best… honest, open, reality based rap music. You’ll find no fake gangster-posturing here, no tall tales of wealth and jewels, just a cohesive album of truth based music. A healthy dose of musical honesty in fact!

It sees Life in a more mature mode too. Assured raps that touch on various, pretty darn relevant subjects in these days and times. And while it may be regarded in some quarters, as passé to speak out against subjects such as the war, racism and the prison system (witness the recent backlash against the likes of Al Gore, Michael Moore and Mark Thomas etc), Life believes that music should remain a vessel for change, for protest. And while his music acts as an outlet for his views, his words are backed by actual experience, and illustrated by his collaborative work with Amnesty International, Peace Not War and Love Music, Hate Racism.

As before, long-time friend, PhiLifeCypher cohort and DJ: Nappa produces the entire album. His almost telepathic working relationship with Life again yields devastatingly effective results. His love for funk, soul, prog-rock, reggae and the like really shines through over the 20 tracks, as he, again comes up with goods, delivering a wide selection of backdrops for Life’s frenetic delivery. The music remains hard-hitting and, in the traditions of hip-hop…raw! Yet at the same time there is an undeniably soulful, emotional edge to the beats, with the end result, a truly potent musical brew!

And not content with just producing the album, Nappa also gets his chance to shine on a solo-level (with the help of Mr Thing who pitches in with two beats) on Disc 2: Life Beat Tape, a collection of 28 tracks of classic, re-worked and exclusive Life instrumental material. The aim was to give Nappa a platform to display his skills and to offer a little something extra to the fans that have supported the music over the years.

Hip-hop and classical music might seem to be at opposite ends of the cultural spectrum, but not for the young New York brothers Damien and Tourie Escobar. Classically trained violinists, they use their instruments in original music that draws on hip-hop as well as reggae, jazz, and alternative rock. Under the name Nuttin' but Stringz (sometimes spelled Nuttin but Stringz), the brothers have performed for audiences of gradually increasing size, starting in New York City subway trains and progressing to national television audiences. "We broke into the game with something new and different, something string-driven," Tourie Escobar told Evelyn Poitevent of USA Weekend. "People would say it couldn't be done. We proved them wrong."

Chords is back! It’s taken him 5 years to hit us again with a hip-hop album. And it was worth the wait.

After his solo debut “Garden around the Mansion”, he was busy in reggae band “Helt Off” and held down some guest appearances, vocal and production, on J-Ro’s latest album among other things (which was in great part produced in Sweden and appeared on Juju Records, just like Chords, Timbuktu and more great Swedish cats).

The album’s got this movie theme going, starting with the cover, but continuing with a movie poster design for each track in the booklet. Production is, as almost always, handled by the Breakmecanix fellas.
