As Bay Area skratch institutions Bomb and Hip-Hop Slam have proven many times in the past, turntablism is most certainly a universal language. And nowhere is this more evident than on this new platter of brooding cuts, scrapes and concepts manufactured by the 12 hands of Italy's Alien Army. Most definitely on the compositional side of the turntablist universe, the 16 cuts here paint a dark, late-night picture - one that floats, grooves and morphs its way into your subconscious. The cutting here is certainly top-shelf and the imagineering quality is miles above most in their occupational strata. On the slow, freaky side, tracks like the appropriately named "Tales From The Dark Side Pt. 2," the horror film-inspired "Daily Nightmares" and the flanged, spacey "The Classic" are compelling and imaginative. And they rock it faster as well, on the funky, chopped jumper "Thronic Harmonic" and the jazz-inspired concoction "Scratchoetry."
